Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Light
THE LIGHT (L'Équipier) is a French movie co-written and directed by Philippe Lioret in 2004.

After having fought in Algeria, Antoine Cassendi comes back to France with the left hand crushed and unusable. He agrees to become a lighthouse keeper in a small island near the French Atlantic coast. There, he's hosted by the Le Guen family. Yvon Le Guen is also a lighthouse keeper and he doesn't particularly approve the choice of a non-regional guy for a job reserved until then to the inhabitants of the island.

On the other hand, Yvon's wife, Mabé, is attracted by Antoine who tries its best in order to be accepted by the local community. After a few days alone in the lighthouse with Antoine, Yvon starts to appreciate the young man and hesitates now to send to the regional administration a letter, signed by all his colleagues, asking for Antoine's transfer to the mainland.

Antoine is also attracted by Mabé but doesn't want to hurt his new friend Yvon. However, one night, Mabé and Antoine make love while Yvon is alone in the lighthouse. On the next day, Antoine decides to leave the island.
