Buffalo 66 is the story of Billy Brown. A man who has just been let out of prison. He has been inside for two years after taking the fall for a crime. Once released he soon kidnaps a young girl named Layla and forces her to pretend to be his wife in order to his impress his unloving parents. Layla is young and slightly deluded and takes to the role with remarkable viguor.
As the film progresses, we find out about the emotional issues that have led to Billy becoming the wreck he is. we find out about his obsessional love for a girl named Wendy Balsam, a former classmate who he is so obsessed with, that when Layla meets his parents, he introduces her as Wendy.
The film also concentrates on Billy's desire for revenge on the football player who missed the kick, resulting in him losing a $10,000 bet. As the film progresses, love gradually blooms between Billy and Layla but in a curoiusly sexless and childlike way.
