| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about My Sex Life... or How I Got Into an Argument |
MY SEX LIFE... OR HOW I GOT INTO AN ARGUMENT (Comment je me suis disputé... (ma vie sexuelle)) is a French movie written and directed by Arnaud Desplechin in 1996. Mathieu Amalric earned the 1997 French Academy award in the Most Promising Actor category for this film.
Paul Dedalus is teaching philosophy and is not in a hurry to write his thesis mainly because he is too busy to manage his sex life. For ten years now, Paul is going out with Esther but both, although they sincerely love each other, hang out at quarreling each time they are socializing. Paul is also in love with Sylvia, his best friend Nathan's girl-friend, but his principles forbid him from betraying Nathan. Now, after having just definitively broken up with Esther, he starts a new affair with the domineering Valérie.
These sexual experiments and also the numerous philosophical conversations (the movie lasts almost 3 hours) Paul has with his friends will little by little change him emotionally, drive him to complete his thesis and, finally, let him deal with women in a more adult way.
