| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Roustabout |
Elvis Presley plays Charlie Rogers, a singer. He is just finished is latest gig, with no prospects in sight. He has a wreck on his motorcycle. It will take some time for the bike to be repaired. The couple and their daughter that hit him operate a carnival. He hangs around there while waiting for his bike. Barbara Stanwyck plays the carnival's owner. She offers him a job to hold him over until he gets his next singing gig. In the meantime, he becomes interested in the boss's daughter. She is cautious but interested. Unfortunately he sees Charlie as a poor guy. One day on a whim Charlie agrees to be part of the carnival's entertainment. He's a big hit. He is offered a permanent contract which he first declines. The carnivals are very excited about this because the creditors are circling their family business and a competitor is just looking for an opening to buy them out. Can Charlie save the carnival by attracting large crowds to pay to see him? Will he prove himself worthy enough to "get the girl"?
