| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Major Dundee |
MAJOR DUNDEE is a movie cowritten and directed by Sam Peckinpah in 1965.
Near the end of the Civil War, Major Amos Charles Dundee is sent by his hierarchy to a farther western Fort in order to put an end to the bloody raids of the Apache Sierra Charriba's gang which has just slaughtered the whole garrison of the fort and kidnapped three boys. In order to have enough men with him, Major Dundee is forced to recruit horse thieves, out-of-work cowboys and even ten Confederate prisoners.
The Confederate Capt. Benjamin Tyreen agrees to command his men for this mission once he has Dundee's parole that they'll be free to come back home once Charriba is killed and the children saved. The detachment crosses the Rio Grande and enters Mexico. After a first skirmish with Charriba, Dundee and his men, needing horses and supplies, will rob them from the French army.
On his way back to the U.S., Dundee will finally have the opportunity to face Charriba and his warriors but the French cavalry is right behind the detachment.
