Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Birthday Girl
BIRTHDAY GIRL is an English movie written and directed by Jez Butterworth in 2001.

John, a bank clerk, orders a Russian bride from a Moscow website and gets Nadia, a beautiful redheaded woman. At first disappointed because she doesn't speak english at all, John finally falls in love with her. When Nadia inexpectedly invites her Russian friends, Alexei and Yuri, for her birthday, John is startled but graciously accepts the situation. A few days later, Alexei, who threatens Nadia in front of John, forces him to steal $90,000 from his employer. John understands then, but too late, that the three Russians are in fact smart crooks from the East.

After a quarrel with her boy-friend Alexei, Nadia is abandoned with John in some motel room. John notices that Nadia is pregnant and, still in love with the young woman, decides to drive her to the airport instead of denouncing her to the police.
