Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Jarhead
Anthony Swofford is a 20-year-old marine serving in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.

Jarhead shows the experiences he and the other marines go through as they train, and then wait in the desert for months and months for the war to erupt.

Desert Shield is a harsh waiting game, and the marines must deal day-to-day with the grueling realities of boredom in the harsh desert environment. They wait for letters from their girlfriends and wives, but how long will they be away before their significant others turn to infidelity?

When war finally does erupt, the marines find themselves out of the action, all of the real fighting going to the pilots.
