Luther (Tim Allen) & Nora Krank (Jamie Lee Curtis) decide not to celebrate Christmas because their only daughter has joined the Peace Corps and will be away for the holiday. Instead, they choose to take a 10 day luxury cruise to The Islands. Friends and neighbors are less than happy with the idea of breaking community tradition and what follows is a comedic barrage of letting the Kranks know just how unhappy everyone is. Luther and Nora are determined to have their dream vacation at all costs. That is until a phone call announces that their daughter will be home for a surprise Christmas visit. Not only that, she is bringing her future husband to show him what a real family Christmas is like. With only hours before they arrive, Luther and Nora are frantic with an atttempt decorate, arrange a party and prepare all of the traditional foods.
