| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Shadow In The Sky |
Shadow In The Sky stars Ralph Meeker as Burt, a former marine suffering from post war anxiety that is staying in a metnal institution. The movie opens up with Stella Murphy (Jean Hagen), a nurse at this institution, driving up to see Burt's sister Betty Hopke (Nancy Davis) who married Burt's best friend Lou Hopke (James Whitmore). Stella let's Betty and Lou know that Burt wants to get out of that place, but he feels like he is unwanted. Lou and Betty go up to see Burt and see that he is doing pretty well. But there is strife between Betty and Lou because they are having a hard time figuring out if they want Burt around their children. Burt has epsiodes when it rains. He feels like he is back in the war and becomes delusional. After some hard discussions, Lou gives in and brings Burt home but both Betty and Lou have their reservations; always worrying what would happen if it rained and they weren't around to protect the kids. Burt does his best to readjust by getting rundown boat that he planned to restore. Things take a turn for the worst when Stella, who fell in love with Burt, leaves him. In the end, Burt faces his fear.
