| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Dinner Game |
THE DINNER GAME (Le Dîner de Cons) is a French comedy written and directed by Francis Veber in 1998. It earned three French Academy awards.
Every week, Pierre Brochant organizes, with his friends, a dinner whose guests are the most idiot people they have met during the week. Unaware of the reason why they have been invited, the guests entertain Pierre and his friends during the evening. This week, Pierre wants to present François Pignon to his friends. François's hobby is to build scale-down bridges with matches.
But nothing will happen the way Pierre has imagined it. When François Pignon arrives in Pierre's flat, Pierre receives a call from his own wife who tells him that she's leaving him. Pignon is moved by the situation and will try, during the whole evening, to help Pierre romance his wife but every personal initiative he takes is the cause of a new catastrophe for Pierre. Now, Pignon's friend, Lucien Cheval, has just arrived. Cheval is a tax controller and is soon very interested in the paintings hanging in Pierre's flat.
