| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Clean |
CLEAN is a movie written and directed by the French director Olivier Assayas in 2004. Maggie Cheung earned the Best Actress award at Cannes for her performance.
While touring in Canada, the musician Lee Hauser dies from an overdose. His wife Emily Wang, also an heroin addict, is arrested and spends 6 months in jail while her son Jay is sent to Lee's parents. When she gets out of prison, she speaks to Albrecht Hauser, Lee's father, and she agrees not to see her son for several years.
Emily is in Paris now, works as a waiter in a Chinese restaurant and is still taking methadone. She understands soon that if she wants to see her son again, she has to definitively quit drugs. She decides then to stay clean and writes to Albrecht Hauser. Albrecht is actually in London at his wife's bedside with Jay. He agrees to come to Paris in order to speak with Emily and see if he can trust her.
