| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Mystery, Alaska |
Mystery is a small town in Alaska. During the weekends a bunch of ordinary guys get together and play a game of hockey on a frozen pond. They play just for fun, no money involved and no games with others towns. The story gets the attention of the national media and is written up in Sports Illustrated. A TV affiliate picks up on the story and tries to arrange a game between the Mystery boys and the New York Rangers. Mystery is nervous about standing up to the big boys, but at the same time the game will be tremendously good for the local economy. And perhaps it will be good for some of the boys professionally. They spend a lot of money building bleachers around the rink--and then the Rangers try to back out of the game. Through legal manipulating the Rangers are forced to come. And the Mystery boys think they have a real chance because they are used to playing outside where the weather is REALLY cold. Russell Crowe plays a one-time hockey player who becomes the Mystery coach.
