| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Coal Miner's Daughter |
COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER, based on Loretta Lynn autobiography, was directed by Michael Apted in 1979. Sissy Spacek won the 1981 Academy award in the "Best Actress in a leading role" category for her performance.
At the age of fourteen, Loretta Webb, the firstborn of the Webb family, marries Doolittle Lynn. Six years later, Loretta is already the mother of four children when her husband offers her up a guitar for their wedding anniversary. She learns to play alone and soon Loretta starts to write her own songs. Right away, Doolittle believes in his wife's artistic skill and helps her to meet the right people. In Nashville, Loretta makes the acquaintance of Patsy Cline who asks her to tour the country with her. COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER is more than a simple biopic, it's also a fascinating description of the everyday life of a poor family in the Kentucky state right after WWII.
