| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Odds Against Tomorrow |
ODDS AGAINST TOMORROW was written by Abraham Polonsky and directed by Robert Wise in 1959.
Ex-cop Dave Burke wants to hire two men to assist him in the bank raid he's preparing. He offers the job first to Earle Slater, an ex-convict who doesn't want to be supported by his girl-friend Lorry. Burke also asks the black singer Johnny Ingram to be part of the team. Johnny is a gambler who happens to owe $7,500 to a criminal named Bacco.
At first reluctant, Slater and Ingram finally accept the job and meet in Burke's apartment. But Burke hasn't anticipated that Slater has an open hatred for blacks. The hold-up fails and Burke is killed. Hunted by the police but unable to control their mutual hatred, Slater and Ingram start to fire on each other during one of the most dramatic final scenes of the history of movies.
