Based on a play by W. Somerset Maugham, The Right To Live stars Colin Clive as Maurice Trent. The movie opens up with Maurice and Stella (Josephine Hutchinson) happily enjoying the opera. Maurice asks Stella to marry him and she gives in after a little playful resistance. They are soon married and living on his beautiful estate. While chatting outside Major Licondra asks Maurice if he will test fly a plane the nest day for a friend of his, and Maurice obliges. He then gets a telegram stating that his mother is coming in by train at the same time. Stella agrees to pick her up. Maurice flies the plane overhead as the car drives back to the estate. he buzzes over the top of them several times when the engine stalls causing Maurice to crash. He has severly damaged his vertabrae and won't be able to walk again, but his family didn't have the heart to tell him. In an effort to keep his new bride happy Maurice calls for his brother to Colin (George Brent) to come and take Stella out on the town. Though Stella tried not to, she and Colin fall in love, but they don't want to break Maurice's morale.
