| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about A Generation |
A GENERATION (Pokolenie), released in 1955, was the first film shot by Polish director Andrzej Wajda.
The setting is the city of Warsaw, Poland, in 1942. The Nazis are occupying the country. Stach and his friends, captivated by the idealist speeches of Dorota, decide to join her underground leftist youth movement. Between two sabotages, Stach and Dorota fall in love. When the Warsaw ghetto goes in flames, these teenagers will try to save a few Jews who are escaping the ghetto through the sewers. But the Gestapo comes closer and they soon have to go undercover. Furthermore, another Polish resistance movement, right-winged, is not so happy with their operations.
