| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Breaking News |
BREAKING NEWS (Daai si gin) was directed by Johnny To in 2004.
Eric Yeung and his accomplices are on the verge of committing a robbery when the Hong Kong police steps in. Unfortunately, journalists film the shooting and give to their audience a bad image of the police. Furthermore, the thieves manage to escape. A few days later, the police finds the thieves who were hiding in an anonymous building. The neighborhood is soon surrounded by dozens of policemen.
In order to restore the confidence of the population in the Hong Kong police forces, Commissioner Rebecca Fong decides to alert the medias and to give to the members of the antigang squad a camera so that every move of the police and of the bad guys will be seen by everybody. Eric locks himself in an apartment with three hostages and starts to dialog via the internet with Rebecca Fong. The policewoman proposes to him to surrender but Eric still hopes to find a way to leave the building unnoticed.
