| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Barbarian Invasions |
THE BARBARIAN INVASIONS (Les Invasions Barbares) was written and directed by Canadian director Denys Arcand in 2003. This film earned, in addition of the 2004 Academy award in the Best Foreign Language Film category, numerous international prizes during the years 2003 and 2004.
Rémy, a 50 years old university teacher, suffers from a terminal disease and has been brought to the city hospital. His ex-wife Louise asks their son Sébastien to take the first jet flight from London. Father and son don't get along very well at first but Sébastien nevertheless decides to ease the last days of his father. He gathers around Rémy's bed his best friends, carries him to the places he liked when healthy and asks a drug-addicted young woman to give his father heroin in order to soothe his pain.
