Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Sellout
Based on a story by Matthew Rapf, The Sellout stars Walter Pidgeon as newspaper editor Haven D. Allridge. The movie opens up with Allridge driving on a quiet road where he sees Wilfred Jackson standing waiting for a bus. He backs up, hitting a pole and asks Wilfred if he needs a ride. Jackson gets in and they leave. Within minutes, they get picked up by Sheriff Kelwin C. Burke and get detained because Allridge was driving without a liscense. After spending the night in jail, Wilfred pleas not guilty and gets sent back to jail for thirty days while Allridge pays the fine and leaves. Before he does, Allridge lets Burke and his gang know that he will let the public know the injustices being committed by writing articles in his paper. And Allridge does just that until he gets threatened by Burke and takes of to Detroit. But Allridge's campaign would get picked up by prosecutor Chick Johnson, who would investigate and eventually bring Burke to trial. It all comes to a dramatic climax for Allridge and the prosecution.
