| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Beat That My Heart Skipped |
THE BEAT THAT MY HEART SKIPPED (De battre mon coeur s'est arrêté) is the remake of James Toback's "Fingers". It was co-written and directed by Jacques Audiard in 2004 and won eight French Academy awards (Best Film, Best Director, Best Writing-Adaptation) in 2006.
Thomas Seyr is a free real estate agent. One day, he recognizes Mr. Fox, the former impresario of his mother who was a great piano player. Fox gives Thomas his business card and asks the young man to call him back for a piano audition. Thomas was once a bright piano player who gave up practising when his mother died.
Mr. Fox's unexpected offer causes a little revolution in Thomas's life. He starts to practice again, at first alone, but he decides soon to see the Chinese professor Miao Lin every afternoon. This new occupation fills all Thomas's time and his business associates worry about his recent lack of interest in his work. But Thomas sees now the vacuity of his former occupations and lives now only with the hope to pass with success his next audition at Mr. Fox's place.
