| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about I Don't Want to Talk About It |
This film unfolds in a South American village. Leonor, an attractive, wealthy widow, is overprotective of her daughter, Charlotte, who is a dwarf. In fact, the title refers to Leonor's refusal to publicly acknowledge Charlotte's condition. For instance, she smashes a neighbor's collection of gnome lawn ornaments and burns books such as "Gulliver's Travels" and "Tom Thumb" so that there will be no representation of dwarves in their town.
Despite keeping her daughter in an ivory tower of sorts, Charlotte becomes a smart, kind and accomplished young woman. When a dashing, middle-aged Lothario (Mastroianni)comes to town, he falls in love with Charlotte, and she eventually agrees to marry him. The film explores whether or not the two of them can be happy together.
