Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Fists in the Pocket
Marco Bellocchio wrote and directed his first movie FISTS IN THE POCKET (I Pugni in tasca) in 1965.

The film is about a very dysfunctional family living in the Italian countryside. Firstly, there is the mother, blind, who reigns over her four children : Leone who's retarded, Sandro who's epileptic, their sister Giulia, and at least Antonio, maybe the only normal person of the family, who's on the verge of marrying Lucia, a girl from the city. One day, Sandro decides to help his brother Antonio to make the decision to leave the family and pushes his mother in a ravine. The death of the mother liberates Sandro who starts to go to the city with Antonio and to dream of a future for himself. Then, his next step is to drown his retarded brother Leone in the bathtub so that nothing would keep him from starting a new life.
