| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Summer Things |
SUMMER THINGS (Embrassez qui vous voudrez) was written and directed by the French filmmaker Michel Blanc in 2002. Karin Viard earned the 2003 French Academy award in the Best Supporting Actress category for her performance.
The setting is the summer resort of Le Touquet, France. In this comedy of manners, Elizabeth Lannier (Rampling) shares an hotel room with her friend Julie (Courau) while her husband Bertrand (Dutronc) is staying in Paris and having an homosexual affair. Julie meets the womanizer Maxime in the hotel lobby and will spend the week with him. Elizabeth makes the acquaintance of Lulu (Bouquet), a woman harassed by her husband Jean-Pierre (Blanc) who's obsessed by the idea that his wife is cheating on him. In the meantime, Elizabeth and Bertrand's daughter, Emilie, spends the holiday in Chicago in the company of the man who sat next to her in the airplane.
