| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Time Out |
TIME OUT (L'Emploi du temps) was co-written and directed by the French director Laurent Cantet in 2001.
Vincent, a business executive, is laid off of his company. Three months later, he still did not inform its family of it. He continues to leave each morning his house and telephones two times per day with Muriel, his wife, supposedly from his work, while he's spending his days driving in the countryside. One day, Vincent tells his wife that he has found a new job in the United Nations organization in Geneva. Switzerland.
From now on, Vincent does not return any more than the weekend home and spends his time visiting the surroundings of Geneva. But soon, the money starting to be lacking to him, he contacts several of his acquaintances and promises unrealistic yields to them if they agree to entrust their economies to him. During this time, Muriel raises questions in connection with her husband and does not understand why Vincent refuses to make her visit his new apartment in Geneva which he says to have bought. Their children also start to move away from this father whom they do not see any more but occasionally.
