| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Haute Tension |
Haute Tension (High tension in the American release) stars Maiwenn La Besco as Alexia, a student going to meet her friend Marie's family in a secluded home in the hills. They are there to study and relax after a night of partying. Alexia makes nice and everyone is cordial but that quickly ends come nightfall. The mysterious killer shows up and for no apparent reason murders Marie's whole family in a violent and visceral way; slit throats, decapitations, and shot gun blasts. Alex is then bound and gagged by the killer and they take off in a rusty old van with Alexia along for the ride. When the killer stops for gas, Alexia gets out and tries to ask for help from the attendant, but the killer gets to the attendant. Alexia waits for the killer to leave when she calls the police but she is unable to tell them where she is. Alexia eventually finds a set of keys and heads out after the rusty van. The big twist of the movie comes when the police review the video from the gas station and realize that they've been fooled. It's also at this point that Marie deals with the killer in a bloody and violent ending.
