| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about An Unfinished Life |
The movie opens with Jean (Ms Lopez) being apologised to by Gary the woman beating boyfriend. Jean basically doesn't accept his empty excuses, yet again, especially infront of her 11 year old daughter and Gary goes balistic storms off. Jean and her Griff (her daughter) leave town. They have major difficulties getting out of town and therefore have to end up at Griff's Grandpa's house in Wyoming. Grif never knew she has a Grandfather. Enter Einer an ex-drinker gnarled old rancher and Jean's father-in-law. He's none too please to see them either seems on the day Jean found out she was pregnant with Griff it was also the day they buried Griffin: Einer's son and her husband. Einer being the angry man he is has blamed her every day since, you see it was an accident she was driving and the car flipped 6 times.
Also living on the ranch is Mitch (Morgan Freeman) badly mauled by a bear a year ago he is like family. Einer has to feed, medicate and care for Mitch. Just as Jean and Griff come back to the ranch so does the bear. Captured by Fish and Game and sent off to the local wildlife animal zoo/park the bear is miserable. Mitch can feel its pain although he cannot leave the ranch and see it he knows it. The bear and his story is a major sub-plot that intermingles and yet tells almost the same story of love and family and forgiveness.
