| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Cadet Kelly |
Kelly is a New York girl who lives with her mum when suddenly her mum announces that she is engaged to Joe, the principal at the George Washington Military Academy. Kelly has to leave her old life behind and move to stay at this school where she lives in barracks through the week. Immediately Kelly finds herself on the wrong side of the Barracks Leader, Cadet Captain Jennifer Stone who thinks of Kelly as a maggot. They begin to have an unofficial competition between each other, each trying to catch the eye of cute Brad, the drill team leader. Another prank ends in Kelly being sentenced by the cadet court to be the equipment manager for that very team which Stone is also on. At first Kelly doesn't like the drill team, she thinks they are too orderly and have no identities, but she soon learns the beauty of it and begins practising on her own. Meanwhile, at her weekend home, her mother is pregnant and Joe is (according to Kelly) not ready to be a father. He has to loosen up. Kelly makes that her job, and to loosen up the Academy, and to get on the drill team. After a loss in a drill competition, the team looks for a new member and Kelly is chosen. She helps the team become creative and they prepare for the big competition coming up.
