This is a story of a young boy who is accused of stealing five shillings from the naval academy where he is a cadet. He is expelled but his family believes that he is innocent . The fight of the family against a government who is not willing to accede to the belief that it could be wrong . Sir Robert Morton, a well respected lawyer agrees to represent the boy, because he believes in his innocence . The sister and the father of the boy also believe in his innocence implicitly and willingly give up the family wealth, reputation and the chances of the sister's future marital happiness in a case which becomes a national spectacle .
