| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Cars |
In a world where cars are the only “people,” Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson), the newest rookie racecar in the Piston Cup series, is the world's newest celebrity. Just when Lightning is about to win the last race of the season, his two back tires blow out, allowing for a three-way photo-finish tie. The three winners (rookie McQueen, racing legend The King, and hopeful “second” Chicks Hicks) are forced into a race-off at a track in Los Angeles. Desperate to get to the racetrack first in order to smooth over the Dinoco race sponsors, Lightning forces his big rig hauler Mack to drive through the night. Unfortunately for Mack, he falls asleep on the road, knocking Lightning out of his trailer in the middle of the Midwestern desert. While trying to find his way back to the interstate, he ends up speeding through a small town called Radiator Springs.
Forced to stay and repair the road he tore up, Lightning meets a host of interesting characters including a loyal tow truck named Mater (Larry the Cable Guy), local hotel owner Sally (Bonnie Hunt), and the town's doctor and Judge who is fittingly called Doc (Paul Newman). As the road is repaired Lightning becomes friends with these eccentric characters, but time is running out before his big race. Can he give up his career for his new friends and budding romance with Sally, or will he choose to go for the big Piston Cup finish?
