| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Girl with a Suitcase |
GIRL WITH A SUITCASE (La Ragazza con la valigia) was co-written and directed by Valerio Zurlini in 1960.
Marcello Feinardi, a wealthy young man of Parma, abandons in the street Aida, an aspiring singer he met fifteen days before and whom he grew weary of. The same evening, Aida comes to the Feinardi's and is received by Lorenzo, Marcello's younger brother, sixteen years old. Lorenzo is moved by Aida's situation, bewails his brother's attitude but, nevertheless, prefers to tell Aida that she got a wrong address and that the man she's looking for doesn't live here.
The following day, Lorenzo pays Aida a visit and quickly understands that the young woman doesn't have any money left. Attracted by her and feeling to some extent responsible for her current situation, Lorenzo diverts the money intended to pay the lessons of his professors, gives it to Aida and moves her in an uptown hotel of Parma. During a few days, Lorenzo manages to secretly meet Aida at the hotel but he's finally caught by his aunt when he comes back home completely drunk in the middle of the night. Aida leaves Parma after having been moralized by Lorenzo's teacher but Lorenzo joins up with the young woman and finally stated his love to her. After an idyllic evening, the two lovers must finally separate.
