| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Shadow |
In the Tibet of the 1920s, the savage opium lord Yingko (Alec Baldwin) rules a mighty empire, slaying all who oppose him, until the day when a mystic known as the Tulku (Brady Tsurutani) takes him away.
Trained in the use of his untapped mental abilities, he learns how to "cloud men's minds" and become invisible. Returned to New York City, where he is known as wealthy playboy Lamont Cranston, he becomes the Shadow, a cloaked figure who uses his mystical abilities, network of informants, and twin .45s to battle evil.
When he encounters Margo Lane (Penelope Ann Miller), a gorgeous socialite with telepathic powers of her own, Cranston thinks he may be in danger, but that's nothing compared to the threat posed by Shiwan Khan (John Lone), the last descendant of Genghis Khan, who arrives in the legendary conquerer's fabled Silver Sarcophagus.
When Khan, whose physical and mystical abilities rival Cranston's, abducts Margo's nuclear physicist father (Ian McKellen) and co-opts his demented lab partner (Tim Curry), the Shadow must spring into action to foil a horrific plot that could mean the end of the city.
