| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Toys |
At the Zevo Toys factory, owned by aging man-child Kenneth Zevo (Donald O'Connor), all is well. The company makes lots of money selling its uniquely designed, pacifist toys, and the employees are so happy that they literally sing and dance in the hallways.
When Ken Zevo dies of a heart attack, however, things take a turn for the worst. Believing that his son Leslie (Robin Williams) and daughter Alsatia (Joan Cusack) are not ready to take over the business, he hands it over to his brother, Lt. General Leland Zevo (Michael Gambon), who had gone into the family business.
General Zevo, it quickly develops, is several crayons short of a full box. He changes the company's focus toward war toys for the first time in its history and, when he hears about the practice of industrial espionage, he imports cadres of jackbooted thugs, led by his commando son (LL Cool J), to patrol the halls.
Leslie doesn't want to get involved, but when he realizes that the General's plan extends to the marketing of miniaturized military weapons, he teams up with his sister, Gwen (Robin Wright Penn), an employee with whom he is infatuated, and Owen Owens (Arthur Malet), his dad's former assistant, to stop the General before he can soil the name of Zevo Toys.
