Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Imitation of Life (1934)
Bea Pullman is a young widow and mother (to daughter Jessie) struggling with ends meet. Things turn for the better when Delilah Johnson a devoted young mother and servant offers her service to Pullan. Though Pullman declined a couple times, she gives in and welcomes both Johnson and her daugher Peola in her home. One day when Delilah cooked breakfast for Bea, she couldn't help but noticed how tasteful Delilah's pancake is and now anxious to know what is her recipe. Afterwards Bea and Delilah is partners in their own sucessful pancake business and at the same time, a friendly relationship develops between the two. However years have gone by and Delilah relationship with Peola becomes difficult, as she feels inadequate for being Black and decide to cut off all contact with her loving mother.
