Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Munster Go Home
Good-natured Frankenstein look-alike Herman Munster inherits his British Uncle Cavenaugh's estate and the title Lord Munster, 5th Earl of Shroudshire. He sails from the U.S. to England with his ghoulish wife Lily, mad scientist father-in-law Sam Dracula ("Grandpa,") werewolf son Eddie, and pitifully pretty teen niece Marilyn. The late lord's resentful wife, Lady Effigie, and her snobby brats Freddie and Grace, wishing to guard a secret about Munster Hall for their mysterious leader, The Griffin, "welcome" the newcomers by trying scare them away with darkness and spooky, sliding panels. The American Munsters are delighted.

Neighbor Squire Moresby is a longstanding Munster rival in the Annual Shroudshire Road Race. He and his wife reject Marilyn for being a Munster, despite that their Ferrari-racing son Roger has loved her since meeting her on the ship. Meanwhile, Eddie endures the local children's "monster" taunts. To defend his family's honor, Herman decides to race. He builds a car out of a casket and organ pipes.

Spurred by rumors at the local pub, Grandpa and Herman explore their booby-trapped cellar and discover the secret - a counterfeiting room. To keep Herman quiet, Lady Effigie lies that she will inform the authorities for him. Secretly, she knows The Griffin plans for Herman to have a fatal racing "accident." On race day, goons restrain Roger so The Griffin can commandeer his Ferrari. While Roger struggles to escape, Herman races, overcoming The Griffin's sideswipes, a sniper-shot flat tire, and whip cream on his goggles. When Lily rides horseback parallel to him, he mistakes her shouted warnings for love talk, and drives on. Not even an oil slick can stop the intrepid Herman from finishing the race, and discovering the identity of The Griffin.
