An ex-mobster, Vinnie, agrees to testify against the mob and enters witness protection. He gets relocated to a little suburban town in California.
The FBI agent in charge of Vinnie's case and in charge of keeping him safe and out of trouble is Barney.
Barney and Vinnie become friends. Vinnie can't seem to stay out of trouble and keeps committing petty crimes and has to deal with Hannah, the local DA.
Barney has to continuously get Vinnie out of trouble; and in doing so, he and Hannah meet, become involved and fall in love.
Barney, Vinnie and Hannah and her two sons all become friends.
Vinnie begins a new scam. He begins taking donations for a supposed new little league baseball field. Vinnie finally testifies in court, but instead of returning home he returns to the little suburban town.
When Hannah discovers Vinnie's baseball scheme Vinnie must think fast. To keep himself out of trouble he makes a few phone calls and actually gets construction of a new little league ball park under way. After that, Vinnie finally goes straight and becomes a pillar of the community.

Vinnie Antonelli is an inner city mobster who goes under a Witness Protection Program after turning in state evidence. He must testify against mafia men or else spend some time in prison. Anotnelli is sent to a wholesome suburbia town in California and now in hands of Barney Coopersmith, a high-strung FBI agent that deals with Vinnie shenanigans (getting into some conflict with local authorities) all the while trying to keep him on a low profile. Meanwhile state district attorney Hannah Stubbs, who is a divorcee and a mother about had enough of the mobster's careless acts. Stubbs is sure to put Vinnie where he belongs if Agent Coopersmith does not set things straight with the light-hearted Vinnie. While under protection and his obvious boredom in the small town, Vinnie shows Coopersmith how to loosen up a bit, even playing cupid. Hooking up the uptight agent with rigid Stubbs as things turn to love for the two after dancing the merengue.
