| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Blood Alley |
Directed by William A. Wellman in 1955. Captive in a Chinese prison for more than two years now, Capt. Tom Wilder is set free by the inhabitants of a small village who ask him in return to help them to flee China by transporting the whole village to Hong Kong in an old ferry boat. Tom Wilder accepts the proposal of these villagers and, soon all the inhabitants embark on the ferry for this 500 kilometers journey along the coasts of Communist China called "Blood Alley".
During the trip, the passengers will have to foil the schemes of a pro-communist family which poisons the whole stock of food, to undergo a violent storm which almost dislocates the boat and to spend worrisome hours to look for water and wood in order to run the ferry boat's boiler. On the eve of finally arriving to Hong Kong, the boat is attacked by the Chinese Navy and Tom Wilder must hide the ferry-boat in tall reeds bordering the coast, stop the boat's engine and ask the passengers to tug the boat with ropes.
