| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Asylum |
Directed by David Mackenzie in 2004. Max and Stella Raphael have just arrived in Max's new workplace, a mental institution where he's been hired as psychiatrist and assistant director. Whereas Max is dedicated to his work with the hope to become director of the hospital when his superior retires, Stella is bored and notices soon a patient of Doctor Peter Cleave, Edgar Stark, who is authorized to work in the gardens of the hospital. Stella and Jack quickly become lovers and start an impassioned relation although Stella learned that Edgar is locked up in this asylum because he wildly assassinated his wife during a violent crisis of jealousy.
A few weeks later, Edgar manages to escape from the institution and contacts soon Stella who will join up with him each week in London. She finally decides to leave her husband and to live with Edgar. A few days later, the police force manages to arrest her. Following this scandal, Max Raphael has to quit his job and to accept a position in a small Welsh institution. He also tries to give a second chance to his wife who however will leave him again when Edgar contacts her. The police follows Stella then and finally arrests her lover. Disturbed by this new episode, Stella attends the accidental death of her son without even trying to save him. She is then locked up in an asylum under the responsibility of Dr. Cleave.
