| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Good-bye, My Lady |
Directed by William A. Wellman in 1956. Skitter, a 14 years old orphan boy, lives with his uncle Jesse Jackson in the Mississippi swamps. One day, Skitter hears a strange noise in the grass close to the river. He discovers there a dog that does not bark but laughs. Then, Mr. Cash, a hunter, comes with his hunting dogs that don't succeed in catching this strange animal. The following day, Skitter manages to approach the dog and brings it back home.
Skitter calls the dog "Lady" and decides to tame her and to teach her to hunt birds. Lady is a dog so special that she manages to smell the birds from a distance of more than 100 meters. The journalists hear about her and soon Lady becomes a local celebrity. Then, the real owner of Lady comes to town and Skitter learns that Lady is a dog of a very rare African breed, worth a lot of money.
