| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about A Good Lawyer's Wife |
This movie (Baramnan gajok) was written and directed by Sang-soo Im in 2003. Eun Ho-jeong and her husband, the lawyer Ju Young-jak, live with their adopted child in a large South Korean city. Ju is not often present at home, devoting his time to his job and his young mistress. Meanwhile, his wife Eun is bored and represses with more and more difficulty her sexual needs. Thus, she starts to flirt with a young neighbor, an idle student, with whom she often goes to the movies while her child is at school.
The fragile harmony of Eun and Ju's couple will explode following two tragic events: the assassination of their son by a psychopathic client of Ju and the agony and death of Ju's father. Unable to speak about his sorrow to his wife, Ju prefers to visit his mistress. When Eun discovers it, she decides to cheat on her husband with her young neighbor. The couple will quarrel during weeks before finally breaking up when Eun learns that she is pregnant.
