| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about The Slipper and The Rose |
This movie is based on the world-famous Cinderella story. Prince Edward of Euphrania (Richard Chamberlain) is being forced by his father the King to marry a bride from a neighbouring country in order to strengthen their small country and protect it from attack.
The prince is disgusted at the idea of marriage without love, but reluctantly submits to a 'bride-finding' ball in order to select a suitable bride.
Meanwhile, Cinderella (Gemma Craven) has just lost her father, and is being ill-treated by her domineering step-mother and step-sisters. They go to the ball, leaving her to work in the kitchen. But Cinderella's secret wish to go to the ball and see the handsome prince, whom she had glimpsed once, comes true when her charming, but very busy godmother takes time out to make sure she gets to the ball. At the ball, one look is enough for the Prince to fall deeply in love with Cinderella.
But complications arise as Cinderella disappears at midnight, leaving only her glass slipper behind, and the prince has to choose between duty and love.
