Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Being Julia
This movie, released in 2004, was based on Somerset Maugham's "Theatre" and directed by István Szabó.

Julia Lambert (Bening) is a famous stage actress in the London of the end of the thirties, she's married to the director Michael Gosselyn (Irons). Now, exhausted, she wants to take a break. But then she falls in love with Tom Fennel, a young American 25 years younger than her. A few weeks later, Tom starts to move away from her and falls in love with the fleshy Avice Crichton. Julia uses all her resources as an actress to mask her sorrow.

When Tom dares to ask her to give to Avice a part in the next production of her husband, Julia finds a way to take revenge on both lovers. She will flatter Avice during the rehearsals and be nice to the young girl but, on the evening of the opening, she humiliates Avice in front of the audience.
