| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Cooley High |
This 1970s movie is set in 1964 Chicago telling the story of two high school seniors Preach and Chocise. Preach enjoys writing poetry and love learning more about history and is focus on becoming a Hollywood screenwriter one day; but seem to lack studying in school. The same can be said about Chocise- the more playful one out of the two that is coasting his way through school as he have a basketball scholarship ready for him when he goes to college. And not to forget Chocise is a smooth talker with the ladies too. But despite each other differences what brings them together along with friends Pooter, Willie and Tyrone is what other average high schooler would do- act mischievous by sometimes skipping school, doing harmless scams, crashing parties and bus and train hopping.
While Chocise has no problem being charamstic with the ladies, Preach falls in love with fellow schoolmate Brenda, who he dreams having a long-term relationsip with. Reciting poetry to his object of affection, in time his adoration wins Brenda over and soon they become a couple. Mr. Mason the boys history teacher want the seniors to have a more serious outlook on life because their light-hearted actions will prove to be a heavy price to pay later on.
The words of Mr. Mason holds true one day when Preach, Chocise and two hoodlums named Stone and Robert goes on a joyride in a cadillac. What the three young men don't know is Stone and Robert stole the vehicle and now all four boys been stopped by the police and now in trouble. Chocise and Preach have been falsely arrested but lucky for them Mr. Mason bail the boys out of jail. Things does not end right there as bad boys Robert and Stone are out to get Preach and Chocise, believing they betrayed them.
