Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Animal Crackers
A party is held by socialite Mrs. Rittenhouse to honor the homecoming of famous African explore, Captain Spaulding. The party is also a venue to show a famous painting.
However, Mrs. Rittenhouse's daughter, Arabella, and her boyfriend steal the painting and replace it with a copy that he painted to show his work.
But, a social rival of Mrs. Rittenhouse steals the copy and replaces it with a copy that she painted to make Rittenhouse look foolish.
When the painting is unveiled everyone realizes it's fake.
Suddenly, the lights go out; and when they come back on the fake painting is gone. The cops are called in to investigate.
Meanwhile, the real painting is stolen from Arabella and the copy is stolen from the social rival.
The police discover that all three paintings were stolen by a professor. He gives the paintings back and the police decide not to arrest him. However, they discover him also trying to steal some silverware. But, when they try to arrest him, he sprays them and the party guests with chloroform, knocking them all out. Then, he lays down beside a pretty girl, sprays himself with the chloroform and passes out.
