| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Pursued |
Directed by Raoul Walsh in 1947. When he was seven years old, Jeb Rand was adopted by "Ma" Callum who raised him with her two children, Thorley and Adam. The parents of Jeb were killed in their ranch while the little boy was hidden in the cellar. Since then, recurring dreams came to haunt him and Jeb vainly tried to understand their secret meaning. A few years later, the pony of Jeb is killed by a mysterious gunner. "Ma" Callum goes downtown then and finds her brother-in-law, Grant Callum, at the hotel. Grant seems to be linked with the event that cost the life of Jeb Rand's parents.
A few years later, the same Grant Callum convinces Jeb to engage in the American army which will fight the Spanish troops. Jeb, wounded, returns from the war and Grant now tries to arouse Adam Callum's hate against Jeb. After a violent argument with Adam, Jeb leaves the ranch and must kill Adam who attempted to kill him after having followed him. The court acquits Jeb but "Ma" Callum drives him out of the ranch. A few months later, Grant Callum convinces Prentice McComber, Thorley Callum's fiancé, to kill Jeb who's also in love with Thorley. Prentice is killed by Jeb. Later, Jeb courts Thorley and marries her but, during the wedding night, Grant Callum and his men attack the ranch and Jeb must flee. He then goes to the deserted ranch of his parents to try to understand why Grant Callum has hated him so much for so many years.
