Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Yellow Sky
Directed by William A. Wellman in 1948. Stretch (Peck), Dude (Widmark) and their five companions arrive in a small town of the West. They rob the local bank and are soon hunted by the U.S. cavalry. Stretch decides then to cross the desert and the gang, a few days later and completely exhausted, arrives at Yellow Sky, a ghost town on the edge of the desert. The only inhabitants of the village are an old gold prospector and his granddaughter Mike, a gorgeous young woman. The gang quickly infers that Grandpa must hide a small gold fortune in gold. Grandpa and Mike put up a fight and the old man receives a bullet.

Stretch agrees, in principle, to return 50% of the gold to Grandpa if he tells him where the gold is hidden. When the gold, hidden in an old abandoned mine, is found by the gang, a band of Apaches arrive in Yellow Sky. Grandpa, who's a friend of these Indians, saves the life of the members of the gang by telling the Apaches they are his employees. When Stretch wants to keep his word and to return his share of the gold to Grandpa, Dude and the others attack him and Stretch must hide in the house of Grandpa and Mike. Soon, two members of the gang, The Walrus and Lengthy join up with Stretch, while Dude is trying to leave Yellow Sky, alone but with all the gold.
