| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Who's Minding the Store? |
Norman Phiffier is a dog sitter and walker that is smitten by elevator operator Barbara Tuttle. But Barbara isn't exactly a operator, as this is what she tells him but she really is the daughter of the owner of Tuttle's Department store and the heiress of the Tuttle's fortune. Her uppity mother Phoebe is the owner and turns her nose up to people with the likes of Norman, who is just an average everyday joe. Barbara grows feelings for Phiffier and even ask to marry her. She does not mind it but Phoebe sure does. She really does want to break up the couple so Mrs. Tuttle goes as far to hire Norman as a employee in her store to do the worst jobs that she knows Norman can not do- just anything for her daughter to have second thoughts about staying with her new love.
Much to Phoebe's advantage Phiffier is the ultimate accident prone and it shows in work as he once assigned to work at a women shoe store, and a lady wrestler come in wanting shoes that too small for her big feet. Norman tries to force it on the lady but unfortunately the two get knocked on the floor, the lady gets mad, puts Norman in a headlock and throws him over the store counter.
Another incident happens where Norman tries to control a high powered vaccum machine while Mrs. Tuttle, a woman and her Chihuahua near by. It sucks up everything it can including the dog and the Mrs. Tuttle's wig!
There are more countless of tasks Norman has to do and he fails at each and every one of them. Humiliated by Norman's lack of handling things and the loss of her wig, Mrs. Tutton immediately fires Norman. Sadly, he learns that Barbara was not completly truthful of her family background of being rich so Norman leaves the store and ends his relationship with Barbara and goes back to being a dog sitter. Is this the final end for Barbara and Norman? And would things get any better for Norman jobwise?
