This movie is focuses on the well-known boxing manager Jackie Kallen. Jackie was an extraordinary middle-aged Jewish mother from Michigan. Jackie guided the careers of numerous hi-profile professional boxers. Some of the boxers which Jackie guided includes four world champions like middleweight champ James as well as Bronco and Thomas.
This movie focuses on Jackie's relationship with one boxer Luther Shaw, he was a light-heavyweight contender from the inner-city. Jackie helped Luther's life and career to turn around and Jackie's life and career also came into focus due to Luther.
The movie starts showing young Jackie standing in the corner while her dad training the boxers and yelling at her. All her life she had been around boxing ring there was no other job that she wanted to do and when she got a boxer's contract in one dollar as a challenge she realized that being a boxing manager is her destiny. Jackie finds Luther Shaw a thug, raw street style fighter but Jackie saw some potential in him and as the movie progresses the audience will find out how right she was. As a manager Jackie takes all the risks for her boxer Luther. Jackie believed in Luther and Luther learns to trust her, they make a great team.
Jackie in real life finally left her husband and she moved to Los Angeles to become the commissioner of the International Female Boxers Association. This movie is also known as "Lady and the Champ" and "The Jackie Kallen Story". This movie is rated PG-13 for crude language, violence, brief sensuality and some drug material.
