Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid
Set in black and white, this 80s detective-comedy flick stars Steve Martin as Detective Rigby Reardon, a private investigator with little work and too much time on his hands. Walk in his office is a young lady named Juliet Forrest who is distraught over the loss of her dad scientist and cheesemaker Dr. Forrest which he apparently died in a car accident. Juliet doesn't think so and believe gangsters murdered her father.

Julie begs for the help of Detective Reardon, offering him hundreds of dollars to solve her father's case. Reardon believes he died in accident and that's it, but needing the money, he goes forward and helps the beautiful woman anyway. Going through a cheese factory to find clues he approach one door and says:"I entered the room that smell like the number on the door number two". Also the detective visit to the doctor's house leads to a number of lists known as the "Carlotta Lists" a number of people suspected as murderers.

The Carlotta list alone changes the detective mind to believe that Dr. Forrest were indeed murder, so he calls on a list of 1940s Hollywood friends, Bette Davis, Humphrey Bogart, Lana Turner, Kirk Douglas and others (the celebrities is not in the film itself, just clips of these people in their own films). Among their search Forrest and Reardon faces life-threatening situations as Reardon gets beat up, shot at and even dress as a woman to get information from his assistant Marlowe.
