| Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Honeymoon In Vegas |
On her deathbed, Jack Singer's mother makes him promise never to marry. She believes marriage would make him unhappy, and years as a private investigator spying on unfaithful spouses convince him she is right. This is a very frustrating situation for his girlfriend Betsy Nolan. Faced with the prospect of losing her, he makes an impulsive proposal - they will fly to Las Vegas and get married tomorrow.
Arriving in Vegas at the same time are a boatload of Elvis impersonators and the successful professional gambler Tommy Korman. What Tommy wants he gets - and Betsy reminds him of his beloved dead wife Donna. He sends Jack an invitation to play poker and tempts him to play far beyond his ability to pay. He then asks to "borrow" Betsy for the weekend. Initially outraged, they have no option but to agree. Tommy takes her to Hawaii and piles on the charm, concealing his controlling nature. On the enchanting island of Kaua'i they go snorkelling, riding, climbing and boating together. Tommy announces his love to Betsy and kisses her.
Jack sees them on television watching an erupting Mount Kilauea, and decides he must go to Hawaii himself. Tommy hears he is coming and arranges for him to be delayed. Meanwhile Tommy proposes to Betsy. She is inclined to be faithful to Jack, but Tommy tells her lies which paint him in the worst light. Believing Jack never intended to marry her, she accepts Tommy's proposal. They return to Vegas to marry that night, just missing Jack. The only way he can get back to Vegas in time is to travel with a group of costumed skydivers, the Flying Elvises.
