Review Summary and Plot Commentary about Requiem for a Dream
Sara Goldfarb is a lonely widow whose only joy is her son Harry's infrequent visits, and the idea that she may be on television. She wants to wear her red dress on the television, but it no longer fits her. She goes to the doctor, who prescribes her some pills.
The movie is a raw, extremely real account of her descent into her addiction, parralleled with her son and his friend's addiction to heroin.

A man, his girlfriend, his best friend, and his mother, deal with drug addictions in their own way. Each character, however, ends up worse than they started off. This film emphasizes disastrous effects of drug addictions and withdrawl.

After watching this movie four times,I have vowed never to watch it again. The raw and real depiction of four people caught in thier obsesion and addiction left me speechless and heart broken at the movies end. Jennifer Conelley delivers an incredible performance as Marion, proving she is a greatly underapreciated actress. But Marlon Wayans performance surprised me the most proving he can domore than B comedy roles. Requiem for a Dream was tough to watch but hard to look away from.

This is a timeless masterpiece, filmed on a low budget, with a vision realized. Amazing performances abound, intertwined with beautiful imagery and a rivoting score. The struggle between reality and delusion is portrayed incredibly. This is a love story of epic preportions marred by addiction, need, and hopelessness. The characters are played so well, it will touch the most robotic viewer. Please see this movie, if only for the hour and forty minutes you will learn about human nature...

An incredibly strong movie. It's hard to convey the feeling you get after watching these peoples worlds come flooding down on them and even at the end you know there's still so much more that can happen and probably does. I personally thought the romance was particularly moving because I think they really did love each others it's just, as in so many love stories, evil outside influences made them do evil things. Or perhaps it would be better to say evil inner influences.

Inexplicably gorgeous film. To summarize the plot would cheapen it. Vicious, shock, grit, tooth. Avant-garde filmmaking, virtuosic effects. Astonishing acting. Beauty and waste slashed open with a dirty scalpel. Awesome climax that left my quivering mouth gaping, tears streaming in at odd Cubist angles. Watch this film. Kill for this film. Construct idols and bury them in a closet under the forgotten ashes. Worship them in prayers on your eyelids.

The writer-director of the intense and visually arresting "Pi" returns with a vividly colorful and well acted portrayal of descent into addiction. Jared Leto and Jennifer Connelly are a young couple in love -- casual heroin users who become serious addicts while hoping to score a big money deal with a friend (Marlon Wayans) on a heroin sale. Leto's mother, astoundingly done by Ellen Burstyn, starts out addicted to a certain inspirational TV show, and under the delusion that she will be called to appear on it becomes addicted to diet pills. All three central characters' problems are viscerally displayed through visual tricks, music and sound, and fearless acting. The movie is harrowing, stunning, and a terrifying triumph.
